Thanks Nightdive for the remaster but this game is essentially 2002 gaming in a nutshell. If you ever wondered what most of 2002 games felt like, then this is it: basic gameplay featuring mechanics with unexplored potential.

This game has everything to be a very memorable experience, but either Computer Artworks didn't know any better or Vivendi wouldn't let them do it. This is a tame game, that lacks in variety and does not push the Survival Horror aspect of it very hard. It feels more like an action game than horror. It does have some good moments but these are few and far between. Supplies are plentiful, teammates are mostly expendable, enemies are very trivial but keep coming in annoying quantities and boss fights last about 30 seconds at best.

Storytelling is almost nonsensical, with many instances of 2-3 seconds cutscenes following gameplay sections of 2-3 seconds, like entering a door, just to show another cutscene. Some levels' only connection is a breif cutscene of something random, like a helicopter scene or someone running through the snow. The game will refuse to elaborate or provide any more context than that. It can be pretty funny, as my gf said more than once as I played through this game, but if you really want to understand what's going on in this game, then you better pay attention to all the cutscenes and keep your hands away from the controller as any input will skip them.

I knew of the existance of this game and even played a little bit of the original version but have never gotten very far, let alone beaten it... All I can say is it felt pretty underwhelming, especially to be considered a canon sequel to the original movie
