Dark Souls for me is the long journey of an acquired taste. I hated it at first, gave it a second try and still hated it but the third time is the charm I guess... and I still disliked a lot about it.
Dark Souls 2 fixed a lot of what I disliked about the first game and it is still ugly af. Level design-wise it isn't as memorable as DS1, Sekiro or Elden Ring but I can definitely say: being less cryptic about objectives/places to go and having some prior knowledge from both DS1 and Elden Ring definitely helped me a lot. This kinda creates another problem -fanbase endogamy/toxicity- but that's besides the point
I haven't finished this game yet but I'm very close and -this would've sounded crazy to younger me- I'm actually looking forward to play Dark Souls 3
